Secularism in India: A Theater of Absurd

With the announcement of general elections 2014 in India, all the political parties have been expressing their love and concern for Muslims and competing with each other to woo Muslim voters. Even BJP is also using some tokens of love and try to prove that BJP is the best well wisher of Muslims.

 

Now all the leaders right from Rahul Gandhi, Digvijay Singh, Nandan Neelkarni from Congress, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav, Laloo Yadav, Nitish Kumar, Mamta Beharjee, from regional parties to Arvind Kejriwal and Prof.Anand Kumar of AAP  can be seen wearing skull caps and attending Muslim congregations to prove their secularism and love for Muslims. Now skull cap means a degree of secularism.

 

There is a feeling about their voting pattern across political parties. All believe, they vote en-bloc in favour of a party or a candidate. Most of the time a direction or an order is issued from some clergy or some head of some prominent mosque. They are confident that their vote can bring any party to power.

 

In state like UP, Bihar, Bengal, Kerala, J&K, Assam and Andhra Pradesh, where a majority of Muslims live, Muslims are responsible for the rise of regional parties and regionalism. National parties like Congress, BJP and Communists figure third or fourth positions.

 

A majority of Muslim votes go to different political parties based on their local and religious interest. So all the self styled secular parties are racing fast to announce quotas, freebies and funds to Muslims. They are also busy to place a sense of fear of Modi and BJP in their psyche. For Muslims national issues are no issues.

 

Secular parties have created another myth among Muslims that they are wronged and they have not benefited from economic developments. They now live with a victim syndrome. But if budget and other schemes are studied, it is not the case and maximum funds are allotted to Muslims. Islam is almost adopted by government of India.

 

As Hitler used to say and believe that if lie is presented repeatedly in a forceful manner, it will appear as truth. Secular groups have succeeded in this ploy. Actually Muslims are not a minority group. They are actually second largest majority group but most powerful one. But Muslims feel they are minority and wronged group. Despite constitutional safeguards and numerologically strong position, they nursed victim psychology.

 

They have special rights to protect and spread religious identity and security. As UPA and Congress have no development plank, they started consolidating caste and communal vote banks. The Sachar and Rangnath Mishra Committee were such steps. Sachar and Rangnath Mishra created an atmosphere in which pluralism, secularism and multiculturalism etc., mean appeasement of Muslims.

 

In the 12^th plan a special tactic has been espoused only for Muslims, making blocks the basic units for planning and implementing special schemes for Muslims. Special funds were allotted to Muslim majority villages. The secularists still cry hoarse that Muslims are victimized.

 

Now India has Minority Affairs Ministry and Minority Commissions but for all practical purpose they are become Muslim Affairs Ministry and Muslims Commissions. Similarly in every stree and corners one can see Muslim Universities, colleges, schools, madarsas, Haj Houses, Waqf Boards, etc., and all are funded by government. Government allots maximum funds to Muslims.

 

The main reasons behind the backwardness of Muslims are big families and faith in madarsa and Urdu education. They also waste a lot of time and money on useless and unproductive religious rituals. They have complete disdain for women’s empowerment, modern and scientific education.

 

Muslims feel that India is secular because of the strength of Muslims. This is erroneous notion. India is secular because Hindus are absolutely apathetic to their nation and religion. They live and die for minor personal gains and loss. India is secular because of Hindus, not Muslims, Sikhs, Christians or Parsis.
